CONVERSATION GUIDE

One city, one budget, a shared plan

A conversation about a city and a budget is not a meeting to make someone give up a dream. The aim is to make wishes, available resources, and costs that have not yet been verified visible. You can compare two options in turn using the same categories.

A conversation in three steps

01

Separate priorities

Talk openly about priorities such as the program, city life, and independence for the student, and affordable support and transport for the family.

02

Add costs using the same categories

List housing, food, transport, education, and other expenses separately. Deposit, moving, and start-up costs should be considered separately from the monthly total.

03

Plan for uncertainty

Do not count an unconfirmed scholarship as income. Discuss a second option that could work if a dorm place or scholarship is not available, and the limits of the support.

Conversation cards

Student

“I want to study in this city. Can we assess the real costs and the reasons that matter to me together?”

Family

“Let’s be clear about the support we can provide. Without overriding your preference, let’s research under what conditions it would be possible.”

Student

“Let’s not rely on a scholarship before it is confirmed. Let’s discuss an alternative plan too.”

Family

“Let’s separate monthly expenses from one-time costs. Check our assumptions against real prices.”

Questions you can ask

  • What will everyday life be like in this city?
  • Which amounts are certain, and which are estimates?
  • What is our second plan if there is no scholarship or dorm place?

Compare two options using the same TL line items. Amounts remain only in page memory; they are not sent to a server. Do not count an unconfirmed scholarship as income.

TL — Turkish lira. You may use a comma or a period for decimals; do not use thousands separators.

The difference is calculated as B minus A. A negative value means B has lower costs; it does not mean it is a more suitable or better option. Even if the deposit can be refunded, it is included in the initial cash need.

Total = monthly expenses × number of months + one-time expenses. The support gap is calculated only after subtracting confirmed monthly support; inflation, exchange-rate changes, and unexpected expenses are not included.

Selections and amounts stay in this page's memory; refreshing or resetting deletes them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the city with the lower budget automatically better?

No. The calculation shows only the cost difference. The student's interests, program conditions, city life, and support needs should be discussed separately. Verify cost estimates against real, current prices.
